Learn to Fly a Paramotor in Washington State

Our PPG Pilot Training is a ten-day intensive designed to take complete beginners from zero experience to their first solo flights and a USPPA PPG2 rating — the recognized standard for paramotor certification in Washington State. Classes are capped at four students so every pilot gets direct, focused time with the instructor, not lost in a crowd.

Washington State's varied terrain and coastal winds make it one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to learn powered paragliding. Paramotor training in the Pacific Northwest exposes you to real marine weather, coastal sites, and varied terrain — not just ideal conditions. We select our flying sites based on the forecast — Tacoma, Everett, Ocean Shores, and Bellingham — so you train in real conditions.

We take a building-block approach: each skill is mastered before the next is introduced. There is no rushing a student to solo before they are ready. Safety is non-negotiable, and the ten-day format gives every student the time they need without pressure.

Day by Day

Day 1

Ground School & First Kite

We start on the ground, always. Morning covers FAR Part 103, airspace rules, weather reading, gear overview, and risk management. Afternoon moves to the field for your first hands-on time with a training wing. You will learn to inflate, control, and feel the wing through kiting drills before a motor ever enters the picture.

Day 2

Kiting Mastery & Gear Orientation

Full-day kiting in varied wind conditions. We cover forward and reverse inflations, canopy control under load, and how to read the wing overhead. You will also learn paramotor assembly, pre-flight inspection, engine start procedures, and basic engine maintenance. Most students spend more time kiting than they expect. That is by design.

Day 3

Kiting Refinement & Wind Reading

Dedicated kiting day focused on consistency and control across changing wind conditions. Students work on maintaining a centered overhead canopy with minimal brake input, reading gusts before they arrive, and perfecting the wing-overhead running position that directly translates to clean launches.

Day 4

Motor Familiarization & Taxi Runs

You strap on the motor for the first time. Harness fit, thrust management, and torque handling are covered in depth. We practice ground runs: learning to manage power without leaving the ground. Foot launch technique, abort procedures, and communication protocols are drilled until they are second nature.

Day 5

Motor & Wing Integration

Students combine the kiting skills from days one through three with the motor familiarity from day four. Ground handling with motor attached, throttle-up drills, and abort practice. The goal is to make the motor feel like a natural extension of the kiting work rather than a new obstacle.

Day 6

First Flights

Weather and readiness permitting, Day 6 is when most students make their first powered flights. We begin with short, low circuits under close radio guidance. Pattern work, throttle control in the air, and landing approaches are the focus. Every flight is debriefed. Students who need more kiting time stay on the ground. No exceptions.

Day 7

Flight Consolidation

More circuits, more reps. Students work on building consistency across launches, patterns, and landings with increasing independence from the radio. Throttle management, drift correction, and approach angles are refined. The debrief after every flight is as important as the flight itself.

Day 8

Pattern Work & Landing Precision

Full focus on the landing pattern. Traffic pattern planning, wind correction angles, approach energy management, and touch-down consistency are drilled across multiple flights. Students who have solid fundamentals begin working on crosswind circuits and non-standard approaches.

Day 9

Advanced Flight Skills

Emergency procedures, engine-out approaches, and go-around technique. Students practice controlled descents, field selection from altitude, and decision-making under simulated off-nominal conditions. Altitude management and fuel burn awareness are introduced for longer flights.

Day 10

Solo Circuits & PPG2 Sign-Off

Consolidation day. Students build confidence with supervised solo circuits, working on consistent launches, clean patterns, and smooth landings. Instructors evaluate readiness against USPPA PPG2 standards. Pilots who meet the standard receive their official rating. Post-course debrief covers next steps: where to fly, how to keep progressing, and how to reach us after you leave.

Where We Train Across Washington State

We fly where the weather allows. Our sites are chosen for safety and learning quality — wide open fields, consistent winds, and manageable terrain for new paramotor pilots in the Pacific Northwest. The specific site for your class week is confirmed a few days out based on the forecast.

Tacoma

Wide agricultural fields south of the city with consistent Puget Sound thermals in the afternoons. A reliable primary site during spring and early summer when winds are light and skies are stable.

Everett

Open flat terrain north of Seattle. Excellent access, proximity to the Sound, and predictable morning wind windows make this a go-to site for kiting and early flight days.

Ocean Shores

The Washington coast provides some of the best training conditions in the Pacific Northwest. Hard-packed beach at low tide, consistent marine breezes, and spectacular scenery. We use Ocean Shores when coastal weather is favorable - it is worth it.

Bellingham

Northern Washington with views across the San Juan Islands and into Canada. Our Bellingham site offers flat launch terrain and scenic summer flying. Best used mid-summer when the northwest winds settle.

Safety & Support

Paramotoring is a serious sport. We are conservative instructors who take pride in producing pilots who respect the sky, not thrill-seekers chasing shortcuts.

No Flying Before You Are Ready

We do not push students to solo on a schedule. If more kiting time is needed, that is what happens. A student in the air before they are ready is the most preventable accident in the sport.

Weather-First Decision Making

Every day starts with a thorough weather assessment. We cancel or relocate without hesitation. Washington weather requires flexibility - we have the sites and the experience to work with it.

Small Classes, Full Attention

Four students maximum per class is not a marketing line. It means your instructor is watching your kite, your launch, and your pattern on every single repetition. Nothing gets missed.

USPPA Certified Instruction

All instruction follows USPPA standards. Your PPG2 rating is recognized nationally and documents that you have met the competency benchmarks set by the industry's leading certification body.

Post-Course Support for Life

Your questions do not stop when the week ends. Call or text us when you are planning a flight, second-guessing conditions, or just want a gut-check from someone who has been flying Washington for years.

Gear Safety & Pre-Flight Training

We teach you to inspect, maintain, and trust your equipment. A thorough pre-flight habit is one of the most important things we give you - it stays with you for every hour you ever fly.

Common Questions

Do I need any prior experience?

None at all. Our PPG Pilot Training is designed for complete beginners. We start with ground handling on day one and build from there. If you can commit to the week and follow instruction, we can teach you to fly.

Do I need to buy gear before the course?

No. All training equipment - paramotors, wings, helmets, radios, fuel - is provided for the duration of the course. Many students purchase their own gear at or after graduation, which is ideal since you will know exactly what works for you.

What happens if weather cancels a day?

Washington weather is variable, and we take it seriously. If conditions are not safe, we do not fly. We have multiple sites across the state and will move to the best location available. In rare cases of a full day loss, we will work with you to make up the time.

Do I need a license or medical certificate?

No federal license or medical is required to fly a paramotor under FAR Part 103 in the United States. Your USPPA PPG2 rating is a voluntary certification that demonstrates competency - it is not a government document, but it is recognized throughout the industry.

What is the class size limit and why?

Four students maximum. This is not negotiable. With four students, every single launch and landing gets instructor eyes on it. You are not waiting in a queue while your instructor watches someone else. You get real coaching, not supervision.

Can I fly after the course without an instructor?

Yes. A PPG2 pilot is considered a competent, independent pilot. After the course you are free to fly on your own. We will talk you through site selection, solo planning, and how to build hours safely before we say goodbye on Friday.

What should I bring?

Comfortable athletic clothing, sturdy boots or shoes you can run in, a light jacket for morning sessions, sunscreen, and a water bottle. We will send a full prep list after you register.

Is paramotoring dangerous?

Like any aviation sport, risk exists and cannot be eliminated entirely. It can be managed with proper training, sound judgment, and good decision-making. We are conservative instructors. We produce pilots who respect the weather, respect their gear, and know when not to fly - which is the most important skill in the sport.

Is this course suitable for complete beginners to paramotor training?

Yes. Our PPG Pilot Training is designed specifically for beginners with no prior aviation or paramotor experience. Washington State offers excellent beginner conditions — predictable morning winds, varied terrain, and multiple training sites. We start from scratch on day one with ground handling and build every skill before adding the next. No experience required.
